The weekly series, "Kansas Health: A Prescription for Change" has a simple but profound mission: to educate and inform Kansans about issues relating to their health and well-being. As of January 2007, the series is carried on 25 different AM and FM frequencies in Kansas and Missouri, including Kansas Public Radio.

PRNDI ANNOUNCES 2001 AWARD WINNERS

(San Diego, CA) Public Radio News Directors, Incorporated, announces winners in its 2001 awards competition. This is the only national contest recognizing outstanding public radio news reporting at local stations. The contest covers work produced in 2000.

Thompson receives KAB's Tony Jewell Award

The Kansas Association of Broadcasters' Tony Jewell Award, for contributions in the field of alcohol/drug abuse prevention, was presented at the KAB's 50th annual convention October 10th, 2001, to Bryan Thompson, of Kansas Public Radio. The award was in recognition of Thompson's reporting on drug and alcohol issues as part of his public radio series, "Kansas Kids: A Prescription for Change". Established in 1987, the Tony Jewell award includes a plaque for the recipient, and a check for $500 to an alcohol/drug organization of the recipient's choice. The award is named for Tony Jewell, a 40-plus year veteran of Kansas broadcasting, and a past president of the KAB. This is the first time the award has been presented to a journalist.
